About

It all starts when I got really ticked off...well, kind of.

After a nasty tick bite in the beautiful, but sometimes hazardous Australian bush, I had a huge skin reaction. After months of trying topical treatments, I was at my wits end.

I've always loved food. Like, really really love food. Weirdly, I might just enjoy making and cooking food more than I like eating it, but it's a tough call. Since having my first child in 2016, I have increasingly been using my foodie powers for good and occasionally a little evil (Chocolate lava puddings - recipe here, you can thank me later). Over the years, I've learnt that that minimally processed whole and functional foods can have a dramatic impact on our body and mind.

I stepped away from the outward-focussed short-term solutions and looked inwards. I started researching functional foods with the view that if I could soothe my gut, I just might be able to soothe my skin.

One in particular functional food stood out, and that was bone broth. For a few weeks, I dutifully bought grass-fed bones from the butcher, boiled them for 20-odd hours and sipped my elixir. If I'm completely honest, the smell of boiling bones for an entire day plus the process of skimming, straining, cooling and storing was, between you and I, doing my head in!

I came across a boutique New Zealand kitchen making broths from true grass-fed cattle. They were using a proprietary method that supercharged the amino acids, had much higher collagen content than traditional liquid broths and didn't need refrigeration until you opened it (hello, trans-tasman shipping!).

I bought some and my daily broth ritual got a whole lot more powerful and a whole lot more convenient! It was cheaper than my morning coffee and much better for me.

With bone broth at the foundation of my gut health journey, I have never looked back. I'm thrilled to be able to create products that are real, and can have a real health impact.

Please share your stories too, I'd love to hear them.

In health,

Emma
